Blast off!

A brightly coloured rocket soaring through outer space is a dynamic design to create – why not mix them with some of the star cakes (see celestial sensation) for them to zoom past?

You will need…makes 12

1 For the space background, add a little of the teaspoon of CMC to each sugarpaste colour individually. Knead the colours separately until flexible and warm and then knead together until you get a swirly blend. Roll out to 3mm (18in) thick using spacers. Use a no. 8 circle cutter to cut 12 circles. Smooth onto the flat-frosted cakes and trim to fit.

2 For the body of the rocket, roll a sausage shape of white sugarpaste and then cut off the base with a knife and bring the other end to a point. Cut a strip of red sugarpaste and then wrap it around the point of the rocket a short distance from the tip.

3 For the flame, roll out the blended yellow and red sugarpaste and cut out a zigzag shape with your knife. Attach to the base of the rocket with sugar glue.

4 For the windows, use the mini circle plunger cutter to mark a small indentation on the body of each rocket just below the red ring.

5 For the fins, roll out the bright blue paste and cut three triangular shapes for each rocket. Attach in place, one laid flat either side of the rocket body and one vertically down the centre, extending beyond the rocket base.
