From the same position as the body blow, an excellent knockout can be achieved with a hooking elbow strike. This is executed by swinging the elbow in a short arc to strike the opponent behind the ear, driving his head forward and down. Even if he is not rendered unconscious he will be likely to stagger and may fall.
Control the Opponent
Normally the hand you have used to deflect or hold the opponent’s arm remains in place to stop him turning to face you and your free arm delivers the strike, but this technique can be adapted to strike with either arm.
Cross-guard and Elbow Strike
The cross-guard is highy effective against hooked punches, as the opponent will tend to strike your elbows with his fists. The elbows should be held high in front of the head. The defender can turn defence into attack with a counterstrike if the opportunity allows.
