There are representations of an all-seeing eye located on the Salt Lake Temple’s east and west towers; each eye is surrounded by rays of light and immediately above the eye is a veil with folds; the entire image provides the impression that the eye is looking through a veil. The all-seeing eye represents God’s eye, an emblem of His omniscience (God is “all knowing”). God “comprehendeth all things, and all things are before him” (D&C 88:41; see also D&C 93:11, 26). The scriptures also refer to God’s eyes: “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous” (Ps. 34:15; see also Prov. 15:3); “Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy” (Ps. 33:18; see also 2 Ne. 9:20; Mosiah 27:31; Alma 26:35; D&C 38:2; 88:7–13). Also, President Brigham Young referred to “the all-searching eye of the Great Jehovah.”106
