House of the Lord

The expression “House of the Lord,” found more than two hundred times in the Old Testament, refers to God’s temple. House of the Lord is also found prominently on the exterior of our modern temples; President Russell M. Nelson wrote, “A temple is literally the house of the Lord.”173 Just as a house is a structure designed for human habitation, even so the house of the Lord is a building that is dedicated to the Lord. John A. Widtsoe taught, “The temple is a house or home of the Lord. Should the Lord visit the earth, he would come to his temple.”174
