Spires and Steeples

The most symbolic aspect of spires and steeples pertains to the way that they reach heavenward; as worshippers approach the temple, these great structures compel us to look upward, toward heaven and toward God who dwells there. Several temples feature these spires or steeples, which are significant architectural monuments.

The Salt Lake Temple pinnacles are symbolic of Church leaders.

In addition to temple spires and steeples, the Salt Lake Temple features several pinnacles, of which Church architect Truman O. Angell wrote, “Each tower has a spire and twelve pinnacles (emblematical of the First Presidency, Twelve Apostles, High Council, Bishops and their Counselors).”284
