Glorious Southern Desserts

Mile-high meringues, rich puddings, many-layered cakes, creamy candies, chewy bars, and fruity delectables abound in the South. In fact, the only meal that doesn’t require a dessert is breakfast, and that’s only because the homemade jams, honeys, and jellies are desserts in themselves. The interesting thing about the glorious desserts of the South is they aren’t all difficult. Some are incredibly easy, and have been invented out of everything from soda pop to ice-cream sandwiches. There are cakes you dump, cakes you poke, candy that requires a sunny day, and pies that are so rich you almost can’t finish a whole piece. But you do, because to leave even a bite wouldn’t be polite and would be characteristically un-Southern.
