Take in the splendour of Santa Maria Maggiore, then pick up picnic supplies at nearby Panella (Via Merulana 59) and stroll through the Colle Oppio park, past the ruins of the Baths of Trajan. Amble past the pretty gardens and villas of the Aventine to Testaccio. After wandering around Monte Testaccio explore the numerous stalls in the Mercato di Testaccio. Lunch on delicious street food at the market.
Cross the Tiber and stroll along the pine-shaded paths through the Villa Sciarra park to Bramante’s Tempietto.
Dine on Roman dishes at Antica Pesa (Via Garibaldi 18), followed by a nightcap and live jazz at Big Mama.
Explore Villa Borghese park on foot, by bike or by rickshaw, making time for a row on the lake and a visit to Museo Carlo Bilotti. Treat yourself to a lunch of handmade ravioli on the elegant travertine terrace of Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna’s Caffè delle Belle Arti.
Visit the Galleria Borghese before walking through the Salaria neighbourhood to Coppedè for some fanciful architecture. Take tram 3 from nearby Piazza Buenos Aires back into town to Trastevere – the ideal neighbourhood in which to spend your last evening in Rome.
Sip a Prosecco accompanied by live music at Ombre Rosse, then head to Antico Arco for a gourmet dinner.
