VELOCIRAPTOR

Fossil evidence of this man-sized meat eater suggests that it had a coat of feathers. Although its feathers were not used for flight, they might have been used for mating displays or for regulating body temperature. Like birds, Velociraptor also had hollow bones.

1Make a Crane Base Start (see page 7) through step 6 on both sides, folded so the skin side is face out. Inside reverse the flap to form a leg.

Images

2Narrow the leg by folding the corners to the center crease. Make sure you fold through all the layers. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the other flap to make the other leg.

3Valley fold the narrow tip in an X and unfold. Then mountain fold the model in half. Crimp along the creases formed by the X to make the head.

4Mountain fold the center crease shown, then valley fold the two surrounding diagonals. Repeat on the other side. This will help to form the neck.

Images

5Turn the neck edge under a little, then press it in. Repeat on the other side.

Images

6Turn up the lower part of the edge (note that it’s a little curved). Repeat on the other side. Press the edge flat by squeezing it from the top and bottom. Repeat on the other side.

Images

7Inside reverse fold the back of the hind leg to give it shape and dimension. Repeat on the other side. Mountain fold the leg to narrow. Repeat on the other leg.

Images

8Fold the leg forward near the body, then fold it to the back a little further down to form the joint. Repeat to shape the other leg. Fold the leg in half down the middle about halfway. Do not fold the feet.

Images

9Pull the bottom flap down to form the lower jaw.

Images

10Valley fold the jaw in half down the middle. Bend the head up and to the left to shape it.
