“Apples for dessert?” I could see the disappointment on my children’s faces when I announced what our much-anticipated weekend dessert would be. It only took one bite of these cinnamon-dusted apples drizzled with cream to change their mind. You can skip the cream and ladle the warm apples over vanilla ice cream if you’d prefer.
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 teaspoons packed brown sugar, preferably organic whole cane sugar
Pinch of ground cinnamon
Pinch of ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons heavy cream
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook the apples for 5 minutes, or until they are tender and starting to brown. Drizzle with the cream and serve warm.
