makes one and a half quarts
You know that final phase of summer where you find yourself perpetually sweating, the grass is brown and ugly, and the flies attempt to attach themselves to your face? This lemonade is precisely for those times. Let’s pour ourselves a tall glass, sit in the shade, and dream of snow, shall we?
1 cup fresh lemon juice (from 6 to 8 lemons)
½ cup honey
Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
In a 2-quart pitcher, combine the lemon juice and honey, then stir 5 cups water. Chill for 3 hours. Serve over ice with a slice of lemon as a garnish, if desired.
kitchen notes • This recipe works just as well with limes as it does with lemons, if you have a hankering for limeade.
If you don’t have access to fresh lemons or limes, organic bottled juice will work in a pinch. As written, this recipe isn’t sugary sweet. It’s easy to swirl in more honey if you’d prefer it a tad sweeter.
