TOOLS Small pouch or bag (preferably purple)
INGREDIENTS 1 Amethyst crystal (or substitute) | 1 tsp dried lavender | 3 pieces of dried lemon peel | 1 tsp dried chamomile
Some people believe that when we sleep, we travel to the astral plane and are in a state of higher consciousness, which requires protection. Others simply wish to have a good night’s sleep without nightmares. Place this pouch near your bed or under your pillow.
Cleanse your crystal and add it to the bag along with the lavender, lemon peels, and chamomile. Sit with your bag in meditation and visualize a soothing purple light filling it. Speak the words:
May my sleep be protected from harm and ill-will, so mote it be.

TOOLS Spray bottle (preferably glass)
INGREDIENTS Full Moon water (see tip) | A few drops lemon juice | 5 drops rosemary oil | 5 drops sage oil
This quick but effective cleansing spray is great for removing negative energies from a space, while also being very inconspicuous, making it perfect for broom-closet witches.
Add the Full Moon water, lemon juice, rosemary oil, and sage oil to your spray bottle. Shake well. Shaking it will activate the energy as well as mixing everything as much as possible (oil and water will never fully mix, which is fine).
Shake each time before using and spray with intent. You can frequently spray areas such as your bed, your room, or even your own energy field. When spraying, visualize a negative mist being cleansed away by your spray. You can also say the words:
The energy is cleansed and cleared, blessed be.
BEST TIME Full Moon
TIP To make Full Moon water, fill a glass or jar with clean water and let it sit under full moonlight overnight (seal the glass if placing it outside).

TOOLS Cord or piece of string, arm’s length | Hag stone
Hag stones—rocks with naturally formed holes found near beaches or rivers—have long been used in Celtic folk practices to protect from evil.
Sit in meditation with your stone, and visualize the stone and yourself forming a golden-silvery bond. Speak the words:
Hag stone of protection and magick, become my shield and guardian. So mote it be.
Take the cord or string, loop it through the Hag stone hole, and tie a knot at each end. Now either wear it as a necklace, or hang it near your front door. If wearing your stone, visualize it enveloping you in a golden silvery sheen of protection. If the stone ever breaks, it has used its power to protect you.

TOOLS Paper | Scissors | Black waterproof marker | 1 potted plant for each room in your house
OPTIONAL TOOLS Tumbled quartz (one for each plant)
Plants are excellent wards for your home, and can often indicate if you are under spiritual attack, as they act as first-line protectors.
Cut your paper into as many pieces as you have plants. With your marker, draw your own protective sigil or the rune Algiz onto each piece of paper. Bury the paper in each pot and say to each of your plants:
Spirit of this plant, I ask you to be my line of defense, be my protective ally. Blessed be.
You can now give the crystal to the plant by placing it next to it or in the soil.
Watering your plants and taking good care of them is very important. Use Full Moon water (see tip) once a week as an offering. If you notice a well-cared-for plant suddenly withering, it means it has protected you, and you may need to put up more protective wards.

TOOLS Besom or broom | Spray bottle | Incense | White candle | Lighter or matches
INGREDIENTS Black salt | Protection oil | Full Moon water (see tip)
This home-protection ritual should be carried out once a month, ideally on the New or Full Moon. It is essentially a process of cleaning the house of dirt, cleansing the house of stagnant energies, and blessing the home.
Start by tidying your entire space—this step is very important because negative energies cling to dirt and physical mess. Then, with your broom, start sweeping away the dust, making sure to sweep from east to west, like the daily journey of the sun. Now take your Full Moon water and pour some of it into your spray bottle. Move around your space, spraying each room three times.
Sprinkle a thin line of black salt at your front door. This will need to be swept away each month and relaid to keep up the protection. Dispose of the salt in the trash, as salt will ruin soil.
Next, take your protection oil and add a drop to your finger. With your oily finger, draw a protective sigil or the rune Algiz on each windowsill and door frame.
Light your incense, open all the windows, and move around the space one last time, letting the smoke disperse any lingering energies, which will exit through the windows.
Finally, light a white candle by your front door. This will be your protective candle, and you may light it whenever you are in the room.
BEST TIME Every month on the New or Full Moon

TOOLS Bottle or jar | 9 nails and/or razor blades, preferably rusty (only if using urine) | 9 pieces of broken glass or mirror | 9 thorns | Black candle (or black hot glue) | Lighter or matches
INGREDIENTS Black salt | A personal taglock (see tip) | Vinegar or urine
Witch bottles have long been used as wards against evil—they act as a decoy, absorbing a curse or hex sent your way. It is advisable not to move the bottle once created, so be sure to bury it where it won’t be disturbed.
Start by cleansing your space and yourself and casting a circle. Add the nails or razors (if using), broken glass and thorns, the black salt, and your personal taglock to the jar. Next, fill with vinegar or your own urine while keeping your intentions in mind. Seal the jar and light the black candle, dripping the wax over the lid or cork so it may not be opened again. Speak the words:
May this jar protect me and my property, may any ill and maleficent intent be caught in it and drown. May hateful energies be caught by the sharp nails and glass, may the salt neutralize and render them useless. So mote it be.
Then you can open the circle. Now dig a deep hole somewhere in your yard or in a pot of soil and bury your jar. Know you are well protected.
