HEALTH and WELL-BEING

SPELLS

While they should not replace medical attention, spells such as immune-boosting teas, or folk charms for healing—both physical and emotional—can be helpful and nourishing when used in combination with traditional medicine.

Absorbing potato spell

TOOLS Shovel | Plant pot | Soil

INGREDIENTS 1 potato

This simple spell uses a potato to quickly absorb illness and promote good health.

Start by cleansing your tools and ingredients by rubbing your hands together until warm, then holding them over the ingredients and saying:

May these ingredients be cleansed and blessed.

Take your potato and slowly move it over your body, while visualizing the potato picking up any ill health. Then thank the potato, and bury it in a pot of soil or in your yard. The soil will neutralize the potato, and you will soon have a potato plant to harvest for future spells, soups, and other recipes.

BEST TIME Sunday, Waning Moon

Tea to banish colds

TOOLS Jar or container | Tea strainer

INGREDIENTS 1 lemon | ½ tbsp turmeric | 3 slices fresh ginger | 1 cinnamon stick | 1 tsp honey

Brew this tea to banish a cold or to boost your immune system through winter.

Start by cleansing your ingredients. To make the tea, boil enough water to fill your cup and wait until very warm but no longer boiling (boiling water makes the healing properties of honey ineffective). Squeeze the juice from the lemon and add all ingredients to the cup, stirring counterclockwise to banish the cold. Say this simple incantation before drinking:

May this blend banish my cold and promote good health, so mote it be.

Make each sip intentional, feeling how the warm, soothing liquid makes its way down your throat into your stomach, healing you from the inside. Visualize the tea creating a pulsing light from within, dissipating any congested energy at any affected areas, such as a sore throat.

When finishing your cup, close your eyes and take three deep breaths, giving thanks to the plants used in the tea.

BEST TIME Sunday, Thursday, Waning Moon

NOTE If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, seek advice before drinking herbal teas.
