PREPARATION:

- Cut three 1m (31⁄4ft) lengths of 5mm (1⁄4in) rope
Method
- Wrap the 4.5cm (13⁄4in) metal ring with a 1m (31⁄4ft) length of rope (see Wrapping a Ring).
- Mount the eight 5m (161⁄2ft) lengths of rope onto the ring by folding them in half over the inside of the ring. (See Mounting Techniques for preparing to start.)
- Using a 1m (31⁄4ft) length of rope, secure all of the cords together directly under the ring with a 4cm (11⁄2in) wrapped knot (see Wrapped Knot).
- Directly under the wrapped knot, separate the cords into four groups of four cords. Each group now becomes a sinnet (see Knotting Terminology). Repeat steps 5–8 for each sinnet.
- Tie three square knots (see Square Knot).
- Drop down 5cm (2in) and tie another three square knots.
- Drop down 7cm (23⁄4in) and tie a half knot spiral with ten half knots (see Half Knot Spiral).
- Drop down 7cm (23⁄4in) and tie three square knots.
- Drop down 13cm (51⁄8in). Alternate cords by bringing two cords together from each adjacent sinnet and tie one square knot.
- Drop down 9cm (31⁄2in). Alternate cords by bringing two cords together from each adjacent sinnet and tie one square knot.
- Drop down 13cm (51⁄8in). Bring all the cords together firmly and secure with an overhand knot (see Overhand Knot) using the 30cm (1ft) length of cotton twine.
- Using the remaining 1m (31⁄4ft) length of rope, cover the cotton twine with a 4cm (11⁄2in) wrapped knot.
- Trim cords to 30cm (1ft) and fray (see Fraying).
