SIMPLE SCARF

This easy scarf is worked on the principle of increasing until you have used up half your skein of yarn and then decreasing until the yarn is finished. It looks stunning in any type of yarn, whether it be a long striping gradient sock yarn as used in this model or a plain yarn. You could also use thicker yarn for a longer and wider scarf.

5mm straight or cable hook

YARN

100g (400m/440yd) fingering weight yarn

GAUGE

5cm = 14 sts x 10 rows of Tss (before blocking)

Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tss): see Basic Stitches

M1bb (Make 1 – back bump): pick up a loop from the back bump of the return chain behind the next vertical bar, Tss into same vertical bar (1 st increased)

Tss2tog: insert hook under next 2 vertical bars, yo, pull up loop (decrease made)

Special Tss (STss): insert hook under vertical bar and under adjacent top horizontal bar (this gives extra stability to Tss in eyelet rows)

FINISHED SIZE

210cm long x 20cm at widest point (83 x 8in) after blocking

FIRST HALF (INCREASE)

Foundation Row: Ch 4. Pick up a loop from back bump in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch to end, leaving all loops on hook. Return.

Row 2: Tss to last st, work end st. Return.

Row 3: Tss to last st, work end st. Return.

Row 4: Tss 1, M1bb, Tss to last st, work end st. Return (5 lps).

Row 5: *Yo, sk next st, STss into next st, yo, sk next st, work end st. Return.

Row 6: *Tfs into eyelet sp, Tss into next st. Repeat from * to last st, work end st. Return.

Plain rows with an odd number of sts will end with β€˜1 Tfs, work end st’.

Plain rows with an even number of sts will end with '1 Tfs, 1 Tss, work end st'.

Row 7: Tss to last st, work end st. Return.

Row 8: Tss 1, M1bb, Tss to last st, work end st. Return.

Row 9: *Yo, sk next st, STss into next st. Repeat from * to last st. Return.

Eyelet rows with an odd number of sts will end with 'yo, sk next st, work end st'.

Eyelet rows with an even number of sts will end with 'yo, sk next st, STss, work end st'.

Repeat Rows 6 – 9 until half of your yarn has been used ending with Row 9.

Row 1: *Tfs into eyelet sp, Tss into next st. Repeat from * to last st. Return.

Row 2: Tss to last st, work end st. Return.

Row 3: Tss 1, Tss2tog, Tss to last st, work end st. Return.

Row 4: *Yo, sk next st, STss into next st. Repeat from * to last st. Return.

Repeat Rows 1-4 until you have 4 sts left on hook. Work another 2 rows of Tss. Bind off.

FINISHING

Block your scarf to open up the lacy eyelet pattern.

Add tassels or pompoms to the ends if desired.
