^*Hughes still owned the RKO General Corporation, but by the mid-1950s it was nothing more than a holding company and was not producing motion pictures. Hughes sold the company for $25 million on July 18, 1955, to the General Tire and Rubber Company, in what was widely billed at the time as the “largest cash deal in movie history.”
