*All the records compiled by the Senate Watergate Committee are stored in the National Archives but are under the control of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. In February of 1978, the Philadelphia Inquirer asked Senator Claiborne Pell, the committee chairman, for permission to examine the interviews of Hughes executives, including Bill Gay, Robert Bennett, and Nadine Henley. Pell advised the Inquirer that the requested material was not available for public inspection and that in a number of cases it was “not releasable because the interview is not transcribed or the interviewee is not under oath.”
