Layered-Sandwich-Cookie-Style Soap

This fun and versatile method will give you a sandwich-cookie effect. Just like making cookies, you will need cookie cutters to cut out your shape—any shape you desire! I went with mustaches because who doesn’t need a great cleanse with a snazzy mustache?!! These make every bathing experience magical and are a fantastic party favor!

Ingredients:

Basic Soap Recipe (page 14)

Either use the following two colors (titanium dioxide; activated charcoal) or use 1–2 colorants of your choosing, ideas on page 83

1 tsp titanium dioxide

2 tsp activated charcoal

6.6 oz distilled water

2.9 oz lye

8 oz coconut oil

8 oz + 1 tbsp olive oil

4 oz castor oil

Method

SAFETY CHECK!

Prepare your basic soap, bring to light trace, and set aside. Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Weigh 8 ounces of soap mixture into another bowl and blend in 1 teaspoon of titanium dioxide (or color of your choice) that has been previously mixed with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Mix thoroughly. This will be the cream in the cookie. To the remaining soap, add 2 teaspoons charcoal (or color of your choice) and mix well until medium pudding stage is reached.

Pour half of the charcoal mixture onto your cookie sheet and spread out to about ¼-inch thick or less.

On top of this layer, spoon out the white soap and carefully spread this over the black, making sure not to press hard enough to touch or move the black layer underneath. Once you have a nice even and thick layer of white soap, gently spoon the remaining black soap over your white soap using a spatula. Carefully spread this over the white layer.

Set aside to harden for 12 to 24 hours.

Now take your “cookies” and cut with a cookie cutter of your choice. You may have a few black residue streaks on the white cream. This is fine—simply wipe it off with a paper towel and place in an undisturbed, well-ventilated area on a fresh sheet of parchment to cure for 4 to 6 weeks.
