Acknowledgments

We express our heartfelt gratitude to several people who contributed to this second edition of Hazard Mitigation and Preparedness: Mikey Goralnik provided insightful comments and edits in our revisions of several chapters. Stephen Hinkle supported substantially with updated research and identified new images to be used in the book. Logan Couce created numerous tables and figures interspersed throughout the text. We also thank all of our editors and staff at CRC Press—especially Mark Listewnik, Jennifer Abbott, Amber Donley, and Joette Lynch—for their strong support and incredible patience throughout this project.

Anna Schwab once again thanks her mentor David Brower for continuing to share his creative ideas and imaginative guidance for the past 26 years. Additionally, Schwab acknowledges the dogged determination and consistent good humor of coauthor Dylan Sandler, who took on the lion’s share of finalizing this second edition, even while hiking the entire length of the Appalachian Trail and then working at a demanding job in the New York City Department of City Planning.

Dylan Sandler thanks his family and friends for their endless encouragement and for showing restraint in jokes about the ever-lengthening timeline for the book. In particular, he is grateful for the loving support of his parents, Adrian and Shirley Sandler, and his partner, Beth Caldwell.
