DIY: No-Sew Wedding Bow Tie

Why make your own bow tie? Why, it’s as simple as saving money* and also you can match the exact fabric to your wedding party!

Timeless, elegant, and super easy, this DIY can be made in minutes and will feature in photos for years to come (giving you more time to go over that seating chart and work out where in the world you’re going to stick Aunty Gladys . . .).

You’ll Need:

Fabric

Scissors

Thick velvet ribbon

Velcro squares—the ones with the sticky backs

Method:

1. Cut your fabric to approximately 4 x 9 inches. This is a standard size for a dog bow tie, but if you are making this for large and extra-large pups, increase the size. Cut a second skinny strip of fabric approximately 2 x 5 inches.

2. Take your large fabric piece and fold into thirds lengthways, with the top and bottom sides overlapping slightly.

3. Fold in the left and right sides crossways. Dependant on your desired bow tie length, choose how much you want the left and right sides to overlap.

4. Pinch the center of the folded fabric with your fingers to make a bow shape.

5. Using your skinny piece of fabric, tie around the center of the bow. Make sure the knot is tight and secure. Trim the excess from the knot.

6. Take your ribbon, and add a Velcro square (the one with the scratchy side) to the center and to the far right end of the ribbon length. On the left end of the ribbon add a fuzzy Velcro square to the back side. Using another fuzzy Velcro square, add one to the back of the bow.

7. Stick the bow to the center of the ribbon. Attach the ends together and you have a stunning dog bow tie ready for the big day!

Safety First!

When choosing your flowers for your wreath, please be aware that a number of flowers can be toxic if ingested by dogs. Although your dog wedding wreath is obviously not for consumption, if you have concerns your dog may eat or chew at the wreath, please err on the side of using 100 percent nontoxic plants. Always keep your dog under supervision while wearing the wreath.
