here are contradictions in this book. Even having poured over the literature, there will be contradictions. By the time the book has gone to print, there will be new knowledge that expands on my present understanding. I’m not Noam Chomsky, but one thing that he did, besides writing hundreds of books and articles, was admit when his original thinking was misguided. He revoked an entire theory, in fact. You will find inconsistencies within the pages, and while that sometimes frightens me, it also excites me. I’m an early career researcher, and this is the biggest study I’ve taken on to date—the mother methodology—known as grounded theory. It’s ambitious (and a bit nuts) to try coming up with a theory of mind, and then having it cross over to one of soul, too. It’s been a tall order, but the emergence of collective efficacy has been an epic process to behold.
If you are a skeptic like I hope you will be, you will find things in here with which you vehemently disagree. Don’t hide your dismay. Stand up and offer your versions, your truths, your breakthroughs, your unique ways of integrating. We are about building a true community of mentalligent travelers—those who are all about the pivot, who not only enjoy listening to opposing viewpoints but are always prepared to eat some serious humble pie. Bon appétit!
