Finally, we're going to make use of forum signatures and email signatures. If you frequent any online forums, you'll have noticed that most of them typically allow you to create a default signature, tag line, quote, link, and/or photo that appears at the bottom of every post you make. Take advantage of these backlinks!
Think about how often you reply to threads on a forum. If you're active on a forum, it would be easy to post a dozen replies to threads on an average day. Now imagine if each of those posts included a link back to your YouTube channel. Other users of the forum who agree, or even those who disagree, with your replies there might be interested enough in what you say and who you are to check out the links in your default signature. All that clicking will lead to additional views and maybe even a few extra subscribers.
Forum signatures, just like email signatures (which I'll discuss in just a moment), are automatically attached to each reply you post. The signature is totally "set it and forget it," meaning you reap the benefits of all those backlinks for very little time or energy put forth setting up your signature.
And, Google spiders love forums. Google ranks its search results by page rank, a mysterious algorithm that only those "behind the curtain" inside Google know the exact details of. However, it's been reported that an important factor in page rank is the number and quality of a page's inbound links, especially anchor-text links.
Email signatures work in much the same way, only you don't need to worry about your emails being indexed by the search engines. Figure 10-3 shows my current email signature. The signature is the part below the double line and above the "Original Message" part I was replying to.
Try to keep your link list manageable. No one will click through to 10 different sites from your email, and even my three might be considered too many by some. And some spam bots perceive any email with more than a few links to be spam. But, all three I use are clearly listed and serve very different purposes. Again, think about the number of emails you send on any given day. Making sure a link to your YouTube channel appears at the end of each one will inevitably lead to more clicks and more views.
