Acknowledgements

I need to give a special thank you firstly to my clients, all of them, and especially the JSA members who have put their trust in me over the years and allowed me to live a life where I’ve had the time and capacity to read so much more, and even write my own book. Without their trust and faith in me there would not be a book in front of you today.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK for being audacious, brave and willing enough to sign me as a first-time author. Special thank you to Lydia, Oli and Orlando for putting a vision into a hardback book.

Words could not describe my continued gratitude to my family, who over the years have supported me through thick and thin. I don’t tell them enough so here it is in writing, in a book, of all things. Life isn’t always easy and the support from my family has been second to none, from my sister lending me her lunch money when I was at school all the way to seeking refuge from my very busy work schedule at my parents’ house – and all they ask in return is that I throw a tennis ball for the dog and cook on the barbecue.

A big thank you to Ben Carpenter and Martin MacDonald for being my go-to resources in times of need. And a special mention to Ben for contributing and directing me in many parts of the book to relevant sources, with an impeccable response time on WhatsApp.

My friends have been the pillars of my mental health since my first day of becoming a personal trainer, so a huge thank you to Diren, Jayde, Holden and Perry. All of this would have felt a lot like work without your continued support.

Lucy Lord, #notmybird, thank you. We baked a cake when I had 10,000 followers and we sat back thinking I’d completed life. Your positivity and support has been a huge contributor to everything I currently have.

Last but certainly not least, thank you, Luke. A man with a vision for what I could accomplish and the belief to back me from the very early days. A manager, my events guy, but now also one of my best friends. The man in the shadows who took my dreams and aspirations and made them my reality.

Thank you!

Without you lot, I very much doubt we’d be here with a book.

A special thank you to the following peers, friends and experts who have helped to inform the research-based analysis within this book:
