About the Author

Neal D. Barnard, MD, FACC, is perhaps the world’s most respected authority on vegan diets. He is a faculty member of the George Washington University School of Medicine and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Dr. Barnard’s research, funded by the US government, revolutionized the dietary approach to type 2 diabetes, and his findings have influenced the policies of the US Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, the American Diabetes Association, and the American Medical Association. In 2015, he was named a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and in 2016, he received the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s Trailblazer Award. Dr. Barnard is editor-in-chief of the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians, a nutrition textbook given to all medical students in the United States.
