Boundaries
The practices in this chapter help to create and maintain safe and healthy personal space. Kabbalistic symbolism adds the power of divine protection. When the self feels safe, the power of the yin, and its higher counterpart, the divine presence, can blossom.
Boundaries are a necessary part of a healthy psyche. Many of us have unhealthy energetic boundaries. We take on the emotions of others, or unconsciously allow our energies to leak into situations that may not even directly concern us. Then we wonder why we feel drained. Boundaries are so important in Kabbalah that a section of the Zohar discusses in great detail the ramifications of their coming into being on the second day of creation. The ultimate kabbalistic vision is of oneness and unity, but it is only through having secure boundaries in ourselves that we can fulfill our individual missions and have true relationship and the intimacy of “oneness” with others. The addition of kabbalistic symbols in these boundary practices permeates and surrounds the energy body with divine love.
Kabbalah Zip-Up (KAZU)
Energy/Kabbalah Background
The Zip-Up is an Eden Energy Medicine technique that creates natural self-protection from both environmental toxins and unwanted human energies. The kabbalistic Zip-Up (KAZU) is a variation of this exercise which uses the infinity signs of love to create both boundaries and balance.
The Zip-Up protects the most receptive (yin) channel of the body, the central meridian. The Zip-Up also creates a boundary over the lower five chakras which lie directly on the central meridian, including the ever-vulnerable heart and solar plexus.
The central meridian corresponds to the central column of the kabbalistic Tree of Life as projected on a physical body. The central meridian is also a radiant circuit, and like each of the radiant circuits, contributes an essential attribute, a gift that is part of our essence. The gift of the central channel is love.68
On a spiritual level then, the KAZU protects the sefirot in the central column of the Tree. Because the Tree also has right and left columns, tracing horizontal infinity signs of love helps to balance these opposites as well. Balancing the right and left takes on even more significance because the left, feminine, side of the tree is the boundary-creator. The right (masculine) side seeks relationship and unity. Balancing right and left with a physical exercise helps bring stability to all the universes, including the spiritual body.
How: Place the hands over the heart and take a deep breath in and out. The visualization is similar to the Breath of Love in Chapter 15. The heart is at the center of an infinity sign that receives the energy of Heaven and Earth in the form of YHVH. In the heart, the gematria of YHVH, 26, divides into 2 x 13/ahava and ahava, and love flows out the hands.
Activate the hands by imagining they are connected to an infinity sign of love centered in the heart.
Extend the arms down in front of the body. Draw small infinity signs of love by flipping your hands over and back up the center of your body to the mouth. It may help to imagine that you are connecting the right and left columns of the Tree or that you are conducting a mini-orchestra up the center of your body as it plays the music of love.
Draw several infinity signs over the mouth, sealing in the energy.
The Kabbalistic Aura Protector
The kabbalistic Aura Protector (KAP) is based on Ellen Meredith’s exercise for reinforcing the boundary of the aura.69
An aura of light surrounds all living beings. Interestingly, aur/ is the Hebrew word for light.
The aura is your personal energy field. It encases and protects the physical body extending some inches beyond the outstretched fingertips. It includes areas above the head and below the feet. Many people are susceptible to picking up emotions from others, and their auras absorb these unwanted energies like a sponge, often without their conscious awareness. The reverse is also true: if the aura has leaks or holes, needed energies can drain out. Both situations can cause physical or emotional depletion. Luckily, they can be managed in most cases with a simple exercise.
The edge of the aura forms a boundary between the you and the not-you, acting as a smart filter of sorts. Just as the cell membrane determines what enters and leaves a cell, the smart filter determines what energies come in and out of your field. If you imagine your body as a castle, the Zip-Up protects the front door. Strengthening the smart filter of the aura prevents uninvited energies from even crossing the moat to get to the door. You, and only you, should be in charge of the drawbridge into your personal space. Activating the smart filter protection by tracing infinity signs at the edge of the auric field and from the edge to the solidity of the physical body creates a safe space filled only with your energies and those you invite. A healthy aura creates balance between the inner life and the outer connection to the rest of the world. The energy field feels safe and secure.
How
As in the kabbalistic Zip-up, infinity signs of love create the KAP/smart filter boundary. What is not recognized as “you” is cleared from your field and you return to your true self, protected in a field of divine love.
Before securing the aura, open the palms. Reaching out on either side, slowly gather into your heart any pieces of yourself or your personal power you may have given away consciously or unconsciously.
This includes any uncomfortable situation or anyone who triggered you negatively, anyone you blame or who caused you to act in a way that went against your gut feeling or sense of who you really are. When this process feels complete, pause for a moment and feel yourself centered and grounded.
You may choose to visualize infinity signs of love or divine sparks
to activate the KAP. The physical movement is the same for either one.
Infinity signs of love contain the equivalent gematria of YHVH (26), ahava/ahava, the same as the KAZU.
Infinity signs of divine sparks contain (Y/Y). Surround yourself with this divine balance of love.
With the arms extended draw small infinity signs of love or divine sparks by flipping the hands over and back, away from you and back again. Let the hands travel around you wherever they will, securing the KAP/smart filter with the help of your support team. When you sense that the edge of the field is secure, you may choose to bring the arms in closer to the body and fill the interior of the aura with more infinity signs. As you continue to draw the infinity signs of love or divine sparks you may enhance the visualization by adding a vibrant color to the infinity signs. Choose a color that makes you feel happy and safe. You may also add a verbal intention.
The intention can be a simple affirmation, such as “only love and goodness” or “invitation only.” Affirmations should be short, worded positively, and expressed in the present tense. End by expressing gratitude to the members of the universal support team who assisted you.
In challenging situations, to further strengthen the aura, try reciting one the following safety-enhancing pronouncements as you draw the infinity signs:
I am surrounded by safe and stable boundaries.
I take responsibility for my life.
My highest self determines what enters my field and what stays out.
I recognize my own emotions and allow them to flow through me without judgment.
May I be surrounded by and filled with love and healing light.
Source of blessings: May it be your will that I be protected today and every day from the insolence of others and arrogance in myself. Save me from vicious people, from evil neighbors, and corrupt companions. Preserve me from misfortune and the powers of destruction, harsh judgments, and ruthless opponents.
Surrounding yourself with the protection of the One will shield you from unforeseen danger and disease.
It will alleviate your anxieties, night and day.
No evil will happen to you or harm your home.
You will easily overcome difficulties, even those that appear insurmountable.
Trust in the protection of the One and you will be safe.
