US 395 TRIPS
Whether you come from the north or the south, US 395 is a scenic delight. Better yet, it offers easy access to trailheads from which you can explore the wonder and beauty of, for this book, Carson-Iceberg and Hoover Wildernesses and northern Yosemite National Park. We invite you to enjoy Sierra adventures from four major trailheads: Corral Valley, Robinson Creek, Green Creek, and Virginia Lakes. The Buckeye Creek Trailhead is also included, for Trips 36 and 73 end here.
At the Corral Valley Trailhead, diverse topography awaits backpackers embarking from the east side of the 160,000-acre Carson-Iceberg Wilderness, where fellow travelers are few and far between.
Few trailheads that aren’t already in Yosemite National Park offer such fine access to the spectacular backcountry of northern Yosemite as does the Robinson Creek Trailhead out of Twin Lakes, west of Bridgeport. This trailhead offers six irresistible trips in Hoover Wilderness and Yosemite’s northern backcountry.
The Green Creek and Virginia Lakes drainages are eastside gems, less crowded than the more popular trailheads out of Twin Lakes to the north and Tuolumne Meadows to the south. The trips out of these trailheads showcase the surrounding peaks and wildflower gardens, plus they offer easy access to the northern Yosemite backcountry.
