BALSAMIC STRAWBERRIES

Darryl Strawberry was my favorite baseball player when I was a kid. From time to time, I still get the old jingle for the cheesy girl store at the mall stuck in my head. (“Have you shopped Strawberry today?”) Anyway, this is the easiest old Italian lady dessert you’ll ever make. The pepper might seem totally out of place here but it makes sense once you taste it, so don’t start thinking about leaving it out.

8 cups strawberries, sliced

½ cup balsamic vinegar

½ cup sugar

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 cup Greek yogurt

1. Place all the ingredients except for the yogurt in a large bowl. Stir and mix well.

2. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the balsamic vinegar and sugar form a syrup.

3. Serve with a dollop of Greek yogurt. (Vegans, this is great with almond-based yogurt.)

TRY THE TIP: Save your leftovers and use as a topping for oatmeal, pound cake, or angel food cake.

MORE THAN THE TIP: If a guest is coming over, serve it with Cannoli Cream instead of yogurt and watch them freak out.
