A walk eastwards along Herengracht towards Thorbeckeplein winds past grand, wide-fronted mansions. The most prestigious plots on the canal are known as the Golden Bend, which is illustrated below. Admire this most picturesque section of the canal, whilst listening to the rondvaarten motoring past, creating lapping waves.
After crossing Vijzelstraat, you’ll pass the house where Peter the Great stayed in 1716 and the asymmetrical building at Nos. 533–7. Look out for the small houses at the corner of Herengracht and Thorbeckeplein which contrast with the grand neighbouring buildings.
At Thorbeckeplein, take the bridge to the right, which marks the beginning of Reguliersgracht. Follow the left bank.
