River’s EDGE

This cosy button-up wrap is the perfect size for throwing around your shoulders to keep wintery chills at bay. Worked on a large hook, the chunky yarn quickly transforms a dainty lace stitch into a striking modern design.

MATERIALS

Malabrigo Chunky (100% pure merino wool; 95m/100yds per 100g/3½oz skein) chunky-weight yarn

3 x 100g (3½oz) skeins in shade 137 Emerald Blue

8mm (US L/11) crochet hook

1 x 4cm (1½in) button

Tapestry needle

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

37cm (14½in) wide x 89cm (35in) long

TENSION

[1tr, 1ch, 1tr] three times and 5 rows to measure 10cm (4in) over lace pattern

FOR THE WRAP

Foundation: Using 8mm (US L/11) hook, make 36ch. Work 1dc in second ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end, turn. (35 sts)

Row 1: 1ch (does not count as st throughout), 1dc in each st to end, turn.

Row 2: 4ch (counts as 1tr and 1ch throughout), miss first st, *1tr in next st, 1ch, 1tr in next st, miss next st; rep from * to end, 1tr in last st, turn.

Row 3: 4ch, *[1tr, 1ch, 1tr] in ch-sp; rep from * to end, 1tr in 3rd ch of 4ch, turn.

Row 3 sets pattern.

Continue in pattern as set for a further 40 rows, or to desired length. (43 rows worked in total)

Next row: 1ch, 1dc in each st to end, turn.

Next row: 1ch, 1dc in each st to end, turn.

Next row: *Sl st in first st, 3tr in next st; rep from * to end, sl st in last st. Fasten off.

MAKING UP AND FINISHING

Weave in all loose ends, block to measurements.

Fold one of the long edges over to create the collar effect, and pass the scalloped edge border over the front to mark the position for the button before stitching the button in place.

Tip

Select a button of a size that can pass through the open weave of the stitch; this means you won’t need to create a separate buttonhole and can fasten the wrap through which ever section you choose.
