Your kidneys are two of the most important organs in your body. Your kidneys help to detox and filter impurities from your blood, as well as the waste products from your urine. Kidney stones form when the kidneys are not able to process (remove) these toxins efficiently. Specifically, a crystallization of unprocessed minerals builds up. Kidney stones cause pain and possible blockage of urine flow. A kidney stone is a solid piece of material that forms in a kidney when substances e.g.,calcium, oxalate, and phosphorus - that are normally found in the urine become highly concentrated. A stone may stay in the kidney or travel down the urinary tract. Kidney stones vary in size. A small stone may pass on its own, causing little or no pain. A larger stone may get stuck along the urinary tract and can block the flow of urine, causing severe pain or bleeding. Kidney stones are one of the most common disorders of the urinary tract. Each year in the United States, people make more than a million visits to health care providers and more than 300,000 people go to emergency rooms for kidney stone removal. People who do not drink enough fluids and urinate infrequently are at higher risk, as their urine is more concentrated.
When your body takes in toxic impurities (contamination) found in food and water e.g., disinfectants, pharmaceuticals, food chemicals and artificial sweeteners, your body can neither process nor digest these chemicals, so they remain inside you as sediments. The more pure water you drink every day, the better able you are to flush these sediments out. Drinking chlorinated water or chlorine (in Splenda) and formaldehyde (in aspartame), as opposed to hydrating your body with pure water daily, will create unnatural sedimentation in your kidneys. One of the most common reactions to chlorine is bladder and kidney stress; chlorine burns the inside of the tender organs, and when chlorine remains in the kidneys and bladder awaiting excretion in the urine, it can damage those organs. Exposure to chlorine in excessive amounts can lead to fatal poisoning. Healthy urine contains pyrophosphates, citrates, and magnesium which are substances that inhibit the formation and growth of crystals in your urine. When these substances decrease or are absent, a kidney stone can develop. Kidney stones are simply solid concretions or crystal aggregates of undissolved minerals in your urine, and they form inside the kidneys or bladder. While they are forming, you may feel pain, such as a slight twinge in your lower back or side. That's your kidneys telling you they need more pure water to keep the sediments dissolved and on their way out of your body. Kidney stones are mineral crystals that have the colors of the toxic elements that form them. They glisten in the sunlight, reflecting the green of chlorine and bile, red from iron, white from formaldehyde, and yellow from potassium and radiation.
Common causes of kidney stones: Diet, insufficient hydration, white flour, processed sugar and sugar products, pesticides, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, pharmaceuticals, hydrogenated oils and processed fats, imbalanced body pH, food or drink processed and/or contaminated with heavy metals and/or chemicals, overeating, lack of vitamin A, and/or Cystinuria - a hereditary disorder. Men are four times more likely to develop kidney stones than women. That risk jumps significantly for men over the age of 40. The researchers noted, however, that postmenopausal women with low estrogen levels and those who have had their ovaries removed are also at greater risk. To reduce the risk of kidney stones, stay hydrated. Although drinking pure water is best, real lemonade is another good option. Around half of all people who have previously had a kidney stone will develop another one within five years. Other risk factors include: A family history of kidney stones, taking certain medicines such as diuretics (water tablets), antacids, and thyroid medications, having only one kidney or abnormally shaped kidneys, eating a diet high in grain-fed protein, remaining dehydrated, having poor mobility (e.g, being confined to bed), holding your water rather then frequent urination and/or having a disease of the small intestine or a small-intestinal bypass. Apple and cranberry juice contain oxalates, and both have been associated with a higher risk for calcium oxalate stones. Cranberry juice has properties that may increase the risk for both calcium oxalate and uric acid stones. On the other hand, cranberry juice helps prevent urinary tract infections and so may be helpful for reducing the risk for struvite and/or calcium phosphate (brushite) kidney stones. Brushite kidney stones (calcium hydrogen phosphate) develop in urine with a pH in the range of 6.5–6.8 and high concentrations of calcium and phosphate.
Pesticide POISONS can contain barium, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and lead. Barium toxicity may cause abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Cadmium can cause edema, kidney stones, chronic fatigue syndrome, impotence, arthritis and high blood pressure. Lead and arsenic are associated with high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disorders, memory/concentration disorders and various anemias. Avoid the use of all pesticide POISONS!
Kidney stones vary in size and shape. Stones may be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a pearl. Some stones are even as big as golf balls. Stones may be smooth or jagged and are usually yellow or brown in color. There are five major types of kidney stones: Calcium stones are the most common type of kidney stone and occur in two major forms: calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate. Calcium stones are caused by unused calcium being collected in the kidneys and not flushed out with the rest of the urine. It then combines with other waste material to form a stone. Calcium oxalate stones are more common and may be caused by high calcium and high oxalate excretion. Calcium phosphate stones are caused by the combination of high urine calcium and alkaline urine, meaning your urine has a high pH. Calcium phosphate (brushite) stones are common and easily dissolve in urine acidified by vitamin C. Calcium oxalate stones are also common but they do not dissolve in acid urine- (see below)..
Uric acid stones form when the urine is persistently acidic. A diet rich in purines—substances found in animal protein such as meats, fish, and shellfish—may increase uric acid in urine. Normally, when cells die and get recycled, the purines in their genetic material also get broken down. Uric acid is the chemical formed when purines have been broken down completely. If uric acid becomes concentrated in the urine, it can settle and form a stone by itself or along with calcium. Uric acid stones result from a problem metabolizing purines (the chemical base of adenine, xanthine, theobromine [in chocolate] and uric acid). They may also form in a condition such as gout.
Struvite stones can form after a urinary infection and are made of magnesium and ammonia. Eliminating infected stones from the urinary tract and staying infection-free can prevent more struvite stones. Magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite stones) are much less common, often appearing after an infection. They dissolve in vitamin C acidified urine.
Cystine stones result from a genetic disorder that causes cystine to leak through the kidneys and into the urine, forming crystals that tend to accumulate into stones.Cystine stones result from a hereditary inability to reabsorb cystine. Most children's stones are this type, and these are rare. Persons with cystine stones (only 1% of all kidney stones) should follow a low methionine diet and use buffered C.
The very common calcium phosphate stone can only exist in a urinary tract that is not acidic. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C's most common form) acidifies the urine, thereby dissolving phosphate stones and preventing their formation. Acidic urine will also dissolve magnesium ammonium phosphate stones, which would otherwise require surgical removal. These are the same struvite stones associated with urinary tract infections. Both the infection and the stone are easily cured with vitamin C in large doses. BOTH are virtually 100% preventable with daily consumption of much-greater-than-RDA amounts of ascorbic acid. Think grams, not milligrams! A gorilla gets about 4,000 mg of vitamin C a day in its natural diet. The US RDA for humans is only 60 mg. The common calcium oxalate stone can form in an acidic urine whether one takes vitamin C or not. However, if a person gets adequate quantities of B-complex vitamins and magnesium, this type of stone does not form. Any common B-complex supplement twice daily, plus about 400 milligrams of magnesium, is usually adequate. Ascorbate (the active ion in vitamin C) does increase the body's production of oxalate. Yet, in practice, vitamin C does not increase oxalate stone formation. Drs. Emanuel Cheraskin, Marshall Ringsdorf, Jr. and Emily Sisley explain in The Vitamin C Connection (1983) that acidic urine or slightly acidic urine reduces the UNION of calcium and oxalate, reducing the possibility of stones. "Vitamin C in the urine tends to bind calcium and decrease its free form. This means less chance of calcium's separating out as calcium oxalate (stones)." (page 213) Also, the diuretic effect of vitamin C reduces the static conditions necessary for stone formation in general. Fast moving rivers deposit little silt. Furthermore, you can avoid excessive oxalates by not eating (much) rhubarb, spinach, or chocolate.
Side Note : It was reported on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Scientists have discovered that Vitamin C can kill multidrug-resistant TB in the lab. The study authors from Yeshiva University made the revelation in Nature Communications and studies are now needed to see if a treatment that works using the same action as vitamin C would be useful as a TB drug in humans. Lead investigator Dr William Jacobs, professor of microbiology and immunology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University, says, "We have only been able to demonstrate this in a test tube, and we don't know if it will work in humans and in animals. This would be a great study to consider because we have strains of tuberculosis that we don't have drugs for, and I know that in the laboratory we can kill those strains with vitamin C.
Many people who stay well hydrated and eat a balanced diet will not develop any kidney stones. Others who have one or more risk factors for kidney stones must actively control their diet to prevent kidney stones. In particular, people who have had a previous kidney stone will most likely form additional stones unless proper preventive measures are taken. Passing kidney stones has been described by those (including the Author) who have experienced their terror as one of the worst pains known to man, exceeding even the pain of childbirth. Most people can help prevent kidney stones by making changes in their fluid intake. Depending on the type of kidney stone a person has, changes in the amounts of sodium, grain-fed animal protein, calcium, and oxalate consumed can also help. Drinking enough fluids each day is the best way to help prevent most types of kidney stones. Health care providers recommend that a person drink a minimum of 2 to 3 liters of fluid a day. People with cystine stones may need to drink even more. Though water is best, other fluids may also help prevent kidney stones, such as citrus drinks. Maximize fluid intake. Especially drink fruit and vegetable juices. Orange, grape and carrot juices are high in citrates which inhibit both a build up of uric acid and also keep calcium salts from forming.
Recommendations based on the specific type of kidney stone include the following: Calcium Oxalate Stones - reducing sodium, reducing grain-fed animal protein, such as meat, eggs, and fish, getting enough calcium from food or taking calcium + magnesium supplements with food. Magnesium helps the calcium to metabolize properly. You should avoid foods high in oxalate, such as spinach, rhubarb, nuts, and wheat bran. Calcium Phosphate Stones- reducing sodium, reducing grain-fed animal protein and getting enough calcium from food or taking calcium+magnesium supplements with food. Hydrochlorothiazide, a calcium-sparing diuretic decreases the amount of calcium released into the urine by helping retain it in your bones and helps reduce the chance of developing a calcium stone. This medication works best when you also curtail salt intake. Uric Acid Stones - Uric acid stones are caused by too much acid. Cutting back on grain-fed meat will help stop the formation of these types of kidney stones.. Struvite stones can form after a urinary infection and are made of magnesium and ammonia. Antibiotics help control the infections that can cause struvite stones to form. Cystine Stones -The formation of cystine stones is not common and tends to runs in families. Cystine is an amino acid and some people inherit a genetic defect called Cystinuria that causes cystine to accumulate inside the kidneys. Their kidneys then create stones made of the amino acid cystine that can form in the kidneys, bladder, and urethra. Cystine stones are helped by medication which reduces the amount of cystine in your urine. More information about how changes in diet affect kidney stone formation can be found in the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse fact sheet Diet for Kidney Stone Prevention at www.kidney.niddk.nih.gov.
The Author recommends drinking at least one gallon of pure water every day to not only help prevent kidney stones from forming, but to also quickly eliminate any small stones that may have already formed. Some health practitioners also recommend drinking distilled water to prevent and flush kidney stones. Drinking plenty of fluids are crucial especially for people who are at risk for cystine stones. Cola beverages, coffee, and tea should be limited to two cups a day because these fluids contain oxalate, a chemical compound that naturally occurs in plants and contributes to the growth of calcium oxalate stones. More fluids may be needed to stay hydrated on hot days or when you're active. Drinking lemonade made from fresh lemons or lemon juice may help reduce the risk of kidney stone formation. Lemon juice increases the level of citrate in the urine which in turn prevents the formation of kidney stones."The single most important step for preventing kidney stones is to drink plenty of fluids each day," explains a 2001 issue of Healthwire. "Water is best and most physicians recommend three to four quarts daily. Patients who do no more than increase their fluid intake cut their rate of stone recurrence by 50 percent." Drink more pure spring water and urinate more often. Babies do, small children do, and healthy adults do.
Add fresh lemon, lime and apple cider vinegar to your daily beverages. Taking this a step further, adding fresh lemon or lime juice, or apple cider vinegar, to your beverages throughout the day will help alkalize your body, effectively blocking the formation of
kidney stones. These alkalizing juices will also help quickly dissolve any existing stones that might be present in your kidneys, keeping them clean and stone-free. Lemon Juice, Olive Oil, and Raw Apple Cider Vinegar This is one of the easiest and easily one of the most effective remedies for kidney stones and the pain they cause. At the first symptom of stone pain, mix 2 oz of organic olive oil with 2 oz of organic lemon juice .Drink it straight and follow with a 12 ounce glass of purified or distilled water. Wait 30 minutes. Then, squeeze the juice of 1/2 lemon into 12 ounces of purified water, add 1 tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar and drink. Repeat the lemon juice, water and apple cider vinegar recipe every hour until symptoms improve.
Lemon juice is very acidic and can be use to dissolve calcium oxalate kidney stones. Take about 20 lemons and cut them half. Then squeeze the lemon juice out from them. Then drink straight 8 ounces of pure lemon juice. Wait for about one hour, next add 1 ounce of lemon juice to 8 ounces of glass of pure spring water then drink it straight. Drink the water and lemon juice mixture every hour until you run out of the juice. You should repeat this process weekly, monthly or until your stones are all passed.
Eat more asparagus - this vegetable contains the compound asparagine which helps break up kidney stones. In addition to making the stones smaller and easier to pass, asparagus increases the level of cellular activity within the kidney, increasing the flow of urine and helping to wash the stones out of the system.
Take 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, add it to 1 cup of water and drink before each meal. The chemical composition of this old-time remedy works to soften and dissolve kidney stones.
Drink flaxseed tea to break up your kidney stones. Add 2 tablespoons of flaxseed to 2 cups of boiling water. Allow the seeds to steep for 15 minutes and then pour the brew through a coffee filter to remove the seeds. Add ¼ cup of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of honey and stir until well blended. Enjoy this tea three to five times a day until pain has decreased and kidney function returns to normal.
Increase your consumption of natural diuretics such as watermelon, cantaloupe, celery and grapes. By eating these foods you encourage the removal of excess fluids from the body and work to restore the health and function of the kidneys. Watermelon is packed with potassium salts and its high moisture content helps with hydration - for years Doctors have recommended watermelon as a best diuretic. Grapes have long been regarded as the best home therapy for kidney stones - they have a unique diuretic importance when it comes to eliminating kidney issues...
Moderate your salt consumption. Sodium increases the concentrations of calcium and cystine in urine. If you have previously had a calcium or cystine stone, sodium intake should not exceed 2,000 to 3,000 milligrams a day. A single tablespoon of salt contains 2,325 mg of salt.
Avoid all processed foods, sugars and alcoholic beverages.
Eat foods that are naturally high in calcium. This point may run contrary to your existing line of thinking as far as kidney stones are concerned, but natural calcium is actually beneficial for preventing kidney stones. According to a recent study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, dietary calcium actually binds with calcium oxalate, the substance that makes up most kidney stones, and crystallizes and flushes it from the body before it has a chance to form into stones. Ideally, people should eat 1,200 milligrams of calcium each day, preferably derived from organic foods. A diet very high in calcium from calcium pill supplements may increase your risk of developing a kidney stone unless it is combined with magnesium. Ironically, the same is true of a diet that is too low in calcium. If calcium pill supplements are needed for prevention or treatment of bone disease, they should be taken with food to minimize the risk of kidney stone formation. Because of this, many experts recommend eating more foods that are naturally high in calcium to prevent kidney stones. Based on actual calcium absorption rates, the best foods in this category include leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, nuts and seeds, and raw, grass-fed milk and butter. As a side note, studies have found the exclusively vegetarian diets are linked to higher rates of kidney stones, so be sure to include saturated fats from coconut or palm oils to help balance your fat intake if you do not eat any meat products.
But, if you do eat grain-fed meat products - Your consumption of grain-fed animal protein should be limited to approximately 3 ounces of fish, meat, or chicken twice daily (or a total of 6 ounces daily). Eating too much grain-fed animal protein can lead to elevated levels of calcium and uric acid in the urine as well as low levels of citrate in the urine, which in turn favors crystallization of calcium oxalate, phosphate and uric acid stones. The Author has a dear friend who is a Naturopath and Board-Certified Nutritionist who believes the only reason that meat consumption may be indicated in some stone formation would be due to the effects of consuming and having to break down over cooked improperly raised (grain-fed) meat. He allows his kidney stone patients to continue their meat consumption but only if they eat it rare or medium rare at most and only if it is grass fed, while he works on dissolving their stones.
"There is no treatment or drug which can overcome or negate the effects of a poor diet, inadequate nutrition, lack of exercise, and an unhealthy lifestyle." David J. Getoff
It is just not grass-fed beef - most of the grain-fed eggs currently sold in supermarkets are nutritionally inferior to eggs produced by grass-fed hens raised on pasture. That’s the conclusion of the 2007 Mother Earth News egg testing project. Their testing has found that, compared to official U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrient data for commercial eggs, eggs from hens raised on pasture may contain: 1/3 less cholesterol, 1/4 less saturated fat, 2/3 more vitamin A, 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids, 3 times more vitamin E and 7 times more beta carotene. They also found that eggs from hens raised outdoors on pasture have from three to six times more vitamin D than eggs from hens raised in confinement. Pastured hens are exposed to direct sunlight, which their bodies convert to vitamin D and then pass on to their eggs. Eating just two of these eggs will give you from 63-126% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin D! True free-range birds eat a chicken’s natural diet — all kinds of seeds, green plants, insects, spiders, ticks and worms, usually along with grain or laying mash. Factory farm birds never even see the outdoors, let alone get to forage for their natural diet. Instead they are fed the cheapest possible mixture of corn, soy and/or cottonseed meals, with all kinds of chemical additives. The brighter color of grass-fed eggs, their flavor and texture are due to higher amounts of Vitamin A, D, E, K2, B-12, folate, riboflavin, zinc, calcium, beta carotene, choline, and tons of omega 3 fatty acids, including DHA, EPA, ALA, and AA they contain. A grass-fed egg is second only to the lactalbumin protein in human mother’s milk, eggs have the highest quality protein of any food. This is especially true of a grass-fed egg.
Supplement with magnesium citrate and B vitamins every day. One of the first things that hospital ERs administer to patients admitted for kidney stone pain is magnesium citrate, a natural mineral substance that counteracts the oxalate minerals in many foods. For maximum kidney stone prevention, be sure to eat plenty of magnesium-rich foods every day -- these include avocados, broccoli, raw cacao, beans, bananas, and lentils -- and take a high-quality magnesium citrate supplement like Natural Vitality's Natural Magnesium Calm. Also, it is recommended to supplement with a whole food-based B vitamin complex supplement like Mega Food's Balanced B Complex every day to prevent kidney stone formation. Be certain to take a good B-complex vitamin supplement daily, which contains pyridoxine (vitamin B-6). B-6 deficiency produces kidney stones in experimental animals. In high doses, it is also used medically to treat kidney stones. Remember:B-6 deficiency is very common in most people and B-1 (thiamine) deficiency also is associated with kidney stones. Vitamin B-6 acts as a diuretic and is commonly referred to as pyridoxine and has been found to have a wonderful curative success in removing kidney stones. It is highly recommended that you consume between a 100 - 150 milligrams of vitamin B-6 along with a good B complex vitamin supplement. The best form of B 6 is pyridoxal 5-phosphate. All forms of B-6, natural or synthetic, must be converted to P5P, a natural form, for your body to use it. http://www.anh-usa.org/vitamin-b6-p5p/
One of the worst foods you can consume for kidney stones is soda pop beverages, which greatly acidify the body due to their high phosphoric acid content. There is a lot of misinformation out there about soda and its effect on kidney stones -- a 2010 study actually purported that diet soda can help prevent kidney stones (http://www.naturalnews.com/028814_diet_soda_kidney_stones.html) -- but the truth of the matter is that regular consumption of soda pop is a direct contributor to kidney stones. But before you start drinking diet soda check it out. Diet sodas in general are linked to a 61% increase in strokes and heart attacks! http://www.anh-usa.org/mr-mayor-why-do-you-think-diet-drinks-are-better/
You can also eliminate high oxalate foods from your diet if you have a propensity for kidney stones. Such foods include black tea, grains, and certain nuts and vegetables. You can learn more about a "low oxalate" diet by visiting: http://www.upmc.com . Oxalate is found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. The highest amounts of oxalate are found in dark-green leafy vegetables such as kale, beet greens, okra, spinach, and swiss chard. Other plants that are rich in oxalate include instant coffee, rhubarb, starfruit, soy nuts, tofu, soy yogurt, soy milk, beets, and sweet potatoes. Limiting consumption of these foods may help prevent calcium oxalate kidney stones from forming in you.
Calcium reduces the amount of oxalate absorbed by your body. When there is imbalance of natural fluids and minerals such as calcium oxalate in your urine and there isn’t enough fluid to flush the minerals out and they begin to stick together, or crystallize. This crystallization can turn into kidney stones. According to the Mayo Clinic website, there are several types of kidney stones. One type, calcium stones, can come from eating too many foods with high oxalate levels such as spinach, rhubarb, chocolate and nuts. In some recent studies according to the Office of Dietary Supplements, at the National Institutes of Health - women taking both 1,000 milligrams of calcium and 400 milligrams of vitamin D – both considered healthy doses – increased their chances of developing kidney stones. But, it is a fact that these recent studies were done with calcium and vitamin D supplements and not with Calcium+Magnesium and Vitamin D supplements. Magnesium is the most chronically deficient major mineral in the American diet and absolutely necessary for calcium to function properly. Americans get only about 500 mg of dietary calcium daily, and the RDA is 800 to 1200 mg/day. Any nutritionist, dietitian, doctor or text suggesting calcium reduction is likely in error. Always seek medical attention rather than trying to diagnose or treat the kidney stones yourself.
In addition to creating kidney stones - calcium that is not assimilated properly into your body can lead to arthritis, gallstones, artery plaque, brittle bones, and calcium spurs. All of these have been known to disappear after taking extra magnesium supplements whi ch assists in their absorption.
Uva Ursi is a common folk remedy for kidney stones. Not only will it help fight off infection in your kidneys, but it may also help reduce pain and cleanse your urinary tract. 500mg three times a day is recommended for kidney stones.
Organic dandelion root is a great kidney tonic and cleanser. Taking up to 500 mg twice a day may be beneficial.
The shape of this bean may be indicative of its healing potential. An effective urinary home remedy for kidney stones, traditionally the pods were used as a medicinal tonic. Try removing the beans from inside the pods, and then boil the pods in purified hot water for six hours. This liquid can be strained through cheese cloth, cooled and taken throughout the day to help ease kidney stone pain.
Is a diuretic, horsetail tea is an effective natural remedy for kidney stones. Drink up to 3-4 cups of horsetail tea daily or take 2 grams of the herb in capsule form daily.
The seeds and juice of organic pomegranates can be considered another natural remedy for kidney stones. This is due to their sourness and astringent properties.
Studies show that people with recurrent kidney stones who took magnesium supplements had a 92.3 percent improvement rate in reduction of kidney stones. At least 300 mg of magnesium orotate is recommended daily for prevention and reduction of stones. Take a magnesium supplement of AT LEAST the US RDA of 300-350 mg/day (more may be desirable in order to maintain an ideal 1:2 balance of magnesium to calcium). Citrate and chelated are also good forms of magnesium. Magnesium oxide is harder for the body to metabolize.
Celery in vegetable form and celery seed are great diuretics and kidney tonics. Regular use of celery seed, as a spice or as a tea, may help prevent kidney stone formation.
A kidney toner, basil tea can be taken throughout the day for overall kidney health. If you have kidney stones, try taking one teaspoon each of basil juice with raw honey daily for up to six months. It’s believed that pure basil juice can help induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract.
DE can help prevent kidney stones and heal infections of the urinary tract. It is a natural diuretic which can increase excretion of urine by 30 percent, thus flushing the water-excreting system and restoring normal function to these vital organs.
The Author has also successfully removed his own kidney stones by drinking several glasses of organic apple cider with Gravel root, Marshmallow root and Hydrangea root tinctures.
Infections can cause conditions that favor kidney stone formation, such as overly concentrated urine (from fever sweating, vomiting or diarrhea). Practice good preventive health care, and it will always repay you with interest.
Caution: If your kidney pain does not diminish within seven days of self-care or if at any point your symptoms seem worse, seek professional medical advice immediately!
In 1939, the Nobel Prize winner for chemistry, Professor Adolf Butenant, proved that life can not exist without Silica. In the 2003 book "Water & Salt" Dr. Barbara Hendel states: "Silica it the most important trace mineral for human health!"
Silica plays an important role in many body functions and has a direct relationship to mineral absorption. The average human body holds approximately seven grams of silica, a quantity far exceeding the figures for other important minerals such as iron. Lets look at some of the benefits of Silica
Lower Your High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol! Many people are using food-grade DE to lower their high blood pressure and their cholesterol. Silica lowers bad cholesterol and raises good cholesterol.
Osteoporosis is a symptom of the aging process. As calcium in our body system depletes, our bones become brittle and weak. Taking only a calcium supplement can not correct or stop this threatening and crippling disease because the body cannot assimilate and make use of the calcium without the presence of silica. Evidence suggests that, instead of affecting healing, supplemental mineral calcium, on the contrary, accelerates the leaching away of bone calcium and thus hastens the degenerative process of osteoporosis and similar diseases that affect the supportive and connective tissues in the human body. For osteoporosis, silica can stop the pain and even restore the bodies self repair process. Osteoporosis symptoms attack women primarily after menopause but the degenerative process starts much earlier in their younger days. More women are dying of fractures caused by osteoporosis than of cancer of the breast, cervix, and uterus combined.
Silica is responsible for the depositing of minerals into the bones, especially calcium. It speeds up the healing of fractures and also reduces scarring at the site of a fracture. More and more research evidence shows that through a transmutation process, silica is turned into calcium when it is needed. That is why some scientists refer to silica as a precursor of calcium. Even when calcium is insufficient, the body can turn silica into calcium that the bones need.
In Europe and Asia Food-grade DE is used extensively as a health and beauty product for hair, skin, nails, bones, and joints. They have no FDA. Tissue degeneration accelerates due to aging when connective tissue develops an increasing inability to retain moisture when left unassisted. Silica can help slow the degenerative process of connective tissue. With silica, vitality and life, which are often lost as the years accumulate, can be naturally maintained or even restored to your skin. Collagen, largely made up of silica, is the glue that holds us together. If our body has enough silica glucosaminoglycane, the collagen will make us look younger. Silica helps with skin problems and injuries including itching, rashes, abscesses, boils, acne, callouses, warts, eczemas, burns, frostbite, benign skin sores, insect bites and bed sores. If you regularly follow a silica regimen, your skin will keep its young look. A good silica supplementation program works far better than other products for maintaining healthier and longer lasting collagen. Silica fades age spots.
Hair is natures greatest beauty enhancer. Hair deserves to be pampered. Hair at 90 micrograms per gram is almost as rich in silica as are healthy bones, which contain 100 micrograms per gram. Silica is a major component of hair. Using a good silica supplement should be part of your ongoing hair care program for revitalizing hair. Silica helps to prevent baldness, stimulates healthier hair growth and assures beautiful shine, luster and strength.
By hardening the enamel, silica prevents cavities and preserves teeth. Silica also prevents bleeding gums, gum atrophy, and recession that causes the loosening of teeth, which could ultimately lead to tooth loss. Silica effectively fights ulceration and the decay of bones, teeth and also lessens inflammation.
Your finger and toenails nail are complex protein structures that grow four to five millimeters per month on average. With silica supplementation, fragile nails become normal within a short period of time. Silica will beautify the appearance of your nails and improve their hardness, making them shinier and less prone to breaking. The restorative effects of silica will be most noticeable on your hair, skin, nails and teeth. Our skin and hair require silica essentially for the same purpose as do other tissues. As we know, the supporting collagen underneath the skin enhances elasticity and beauty. Collagen owes that quality to silica, which provides a beautiful complexion that is more than skin deep.
Diatomaceous earth has a negative charge and bacteria has a positive charge. It is believed that diatomaceous earth sweeps bacteria out of the body by trapping it in it's honeycomb shaped skeletal form.
Silica supplementation helps repair and maintain vital lung tissues and protects them from pollution. By maintaining or restoring the elasticity of lung tissues, silica reduces inflammation in bronchitis.
It acts as a cough decreasing agent. Silica tones the upper respiratory tract (nose, pharynx, larynx) and reduces swelling because of its positive action on the lymphatic system.
Silica supplementation keeps menopause free of stress and helps to prevent many unwanted side-effects of menopause
Cancer can not survive in cells that have the correct levels of Silica.
Silica works with other antioxidants to prevent premature aging and to preserve youthfulness.
Silica can help prevent kidney stones and heal infections of the urinary tract. It is a natural diuretic which can increase excretion of urine by 30 percent, thus flushing the water-excreting system and restoring normal function to these vital organs.
The presence of sufficient silica in the intestines will reduce inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can cause disinfection in the case of stomach and intestinal mucus and ulcers. Silica can prevent or clear up diarrhea and its opposite, constipation.
Silica will help normalize hemorrhoidal tissues.
In regulating and normalizing the bowels, silica has a pleasant side effect; it can alleviate lower back pain, which often troubles the elderly.
Silica proves effective with female discharge, abscesses and ulcers in the genital area and cervix, as well as mastitis (especially for breast feeding mothers).
The intake of silica acts as a supportive treatment for inflammation of the middle ear. Because of the beneficial effectiveness on the lymphatic system, silica can be used for swelling of the lymph nodes in the throat.
Silica has anti-inflammatory disinfecting, absorbing and odor binding effects.
Silica can normalize circulation and regulate high blood pressure (hypertension).
Silica can decrease vertigo, headache, tinnitus (buzzing of the ears) and insomnia.
Silica can help diabetes by promoting synthesis of elastase inhibitor by the pancreas.
Silica can help arterial disease by strengthening the blood vessels. Studies confirm that with age, silica disappears from the aorta, the heart's key blood vessel thus weakening its critical connective tissue and resulting in a greater cardiac risk.
Silica can help prevent Tuberculosis.
By improving the elasticity of the joints, silica helps rheumatism.
Silica has inhibitory effects on coronary diseases.
Silica can help avoiding or alleviating Alzheimer's disease( especially with organic coconut oil) by preventing the body from absorbing aluminum and may flush out aluminum from the tissues. Silica can stimulate the immune system.
Dosage: Daily silica needs of humans are 20-30 mg. In years past, our bodies would get enough silica from our diet. Unfortunately, many of the foods we now eat have lost their nutritional value due to soil nutrient depletion, food processing, and chemicals. Supplemental use of Safe Solutions Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth or their Grass of the Sea are essential to total body health. Take 1 heaping tablespoon per day. You can mix it with yogurt, apple juice, grapefruit juice. water or virtually any liquid.. Some friends are adding their food-grade DE in their protein shakes, applesauce and yogurt. Safe Solutions Diatomaceous Earth is Food Grade and very pure. There is no unpleasant taste. Since it will not dissolve, stirring several times while drinking will prevent settling. Some have experienced higher energy levels, so it is probably better not to take it right before sleeping. No worry about getting too much--any excess silica not needed by the body is automatically eliminated through the blood stream, kidneys and intestines.
