| the little girl | came down the stars | and called my name...
| I tried to answer, | shaped my mouth, | words fell
| silently | as dead birds | to the ground
| and once dead | words cannot speak | though they echo
| through the rooms | of our minds | in search of meaning
| that never comes | from the places | that now exist
| and so we keep | on going forward | and looking back
| at things that stand | eternal, ephemeral | a bridge of birds
| that neither sees | nor hears our cries | leaves closed the door
| to hearts and minds | that swim | against the tide
| while fires rage | we ignore | what others see
| as if the world | we occupy | is falling sand
| that traps us | within a veil | of splendid isolation

| that pushes | and pulls | in all directions
| tossing us | hearts and bodies | where it will

| and all the talk | is only words | meanings lost
| in deeds that | carry us | together and apart
| with steps that | falter and sometimes | betray us
| and the circle | follows us | round and round
| until the pain | becomes our friend | and leads us
| closer to one | farther | from another
| like birds of | a proverbial feather | we fly
| high and low | like gypsies | like angels
| in circles | that take us | home
| to people | and to places | to ourselves
| and ten thousand | miles are like | nothing
| more than | a walk, a swing | to and fro
| there and back | like a frieze of life | after the fall
After The Fall
that pushes
like birds of
