1965
land of Armenians, land of orphans
1982–1983
the hungry dream of bread, the thirsty of water
you cannot teach a donkey to become a horse
white teeth, black heart
a long tongue makes for a short life
a lost rope is always long
solitude suits only God
the lid rolled and found its pot
a big house, a big nest of pain
walk with the Devil but don’t let go of his tail
the mouth is the heart’s interpreter
without the wind, no leaf will move
be neither sweet and swallowed nor sour and spurned
in a foreign place the exiled man will have no face
there is life like iron and there is life like silver
where a nail was driven, there will always be a hole
land of Armenians, land of stones
better to be the village cat than a foreign aristocrat
thorns are pulled out one by one
better a wise sinner than a righteous fool
