Pierre de Bourdeille, Seigneur de Brantôme, abbot (in name only), soldier and courtier, was a lover of all things French, and all things beautiful - especially the ladies, and especially those of high birth. He is the sixteenth century's gossip par excellence - "People may blame me sometimes for exaggerating; but I ought to be readily pardoned, because I do not know the art of writing."

His uncritical effusions are sometimes comic and often deeply revealing of the character of his subjects, who include Anne de Bretagne, Catherine de' Medici, Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth and Marguerite of France, and a host of lesser known daughters of France and other "Illustrious Ladies".

This work has been manually converted for Kindle and thoroughly proofread. It includes an index: each entry being linked back to the appropriate page.

The book contains portraits of a number of the main subjects. You can see many more on my Pinterest page:

Also available for Kindle is: "Duelling Stories of the Sixteenth Century: From the French of Brantôme".
