Grammatical annotation is rendered awkward in America by the fact that we have a number of good French grammars, but no one or two superior to all others. Unfortunately, the notes to this text were ready before the appearance of Grandgent's Essentials of French Grammar. The editor would be glad to secure accurate information as to the number of students using other French grammars than those to which reference is made in his notes, and would like to correspond with American teachers upon this subject.
