Part 2

Some Basic Neuroscience

The second part of the book covers the structure and functioning of the mind. The science of the brain and mind is explained in simple terms. There are references at the end for those who wish to look into the work at a deeper level. The science is translated into a working model, the Chimp model, for easy access to the mind. This then gives us the opportunity to explore ways of managing behaviours, thinking and emotions. Chapter 1 explains the basics of the Chimp model. Those who know the model could use this as revision or move on to Chapter 2.

Stages of the developing mind are worked through, with ideas on how development can be encouraged. Influencing factors are considered as well as how the mind manages these. Finally, the way in which we interpret the world and our experiences is looked at from a practical standpoint.
