Special Means Interim Plan for the Movement of Fourteenth Army from East Anglia to the South Coast^*

1. Fourteenth Army will move from its present locations to concentration areas on the south coast in accordance with the schedule at Appendix ‘A’.

2. This movement will be disclosed in two phases:

(a) Reports will be made of the moves of the two assault divisions (17 and 59 US Infantry Divisions) and of the departure only of the two follow-up divisions (11 and 48 US Infantry Divisions). These will indicate a move to embarkation in accordance with FORTITUDE SOUTH II.

(b) Reports will be made of the entire move. These will indicate either:

(i) An impending attack against the Pas de Calais by First US Army Group, with the roles of the two armies reversed, United States forces being now on the right and British on the left, or

(ii) The transfer of Fourteenth Army to Normandy.

3. The timing of the two phases referred to in para. 2 above will depend upon the progress of events.
