Fabric Requirements and Cutting
NOTE
Most of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 30. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.
To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.
Align the 2 pieces of fabric with right sides together. Use a fabric marker to draw the diagonal seam line as shown in the diagram. Sew along the marked line. Trim away the excess fabric to leave a ¼˝ seam allowance. Press the seam open.

Make the Left Side
1. Sew together pieces A. Sew piece B to the top of unit A, and sew piece E to the bottom. figure a
2. Place piece F on top of unit ABE. Mark and sew the diagonal seam. figure b
Make the Right Side
1. Sew together pieces C. Sew piece D to the top of unit C, and sew piece G to the bottom. figure c
2. Place piece H on top of unit CDG. Mark and sew the diagonal seam. figure d
Finish the Block
Sew together the left and right sides. figure e
