Additional Ideas for Setting Reminders

You can set an event to occur repeatedly, such as every day or every week, which can help you achieve a goal. For example, to remind yourself to stop smoking or lose weight you could do the following:

  1. Start iCal.

  2. Create an event that lists a goal, such as Check weight or Stop smoking.

  3. Select EditEdit Event (or press -E). A window appears, letting you modify the chosen event (see Figure 20-1).

  4. Click the repeat pop-up menu, as shown in Figure 20-8, and choose a time interval, such as Every day or Every week.

  5. Create a reminder (message, file, or email).

If you create an event named Check weight or Lose 10 pounds and choose this event to repeat every week, your Macintosh can remind you of your weight loss goals. Since your Macintosh can open any file as part of a reminder, you can also choose an audio file to open, such as a recording of a motivational speech or phrase.

For extra motivation, set several alarms so one alarm sends you an email message, another displays a message on the screen, and a third opens a file. Under such a coordinated bombardment of reminders, you'll never forget a scheduled event or goal.
