BAMBI THE BUCK

DIFFICULTY:

Did you know Bambi was a boy? I know it’s commonly become a female-associated name since the feature film, but a trip down memory lane proves he was a boy. Go figure. This is a perfect rustic addition to any room. The antlers add a nice touch of the outdoors. And just think, no deer were harmed in the making of it.

  1. This pattern takes up most of the page at full size and doesn’t require trimming. You can use the edges of the page to help you center it as well. Once you’re happy with its position, tape your pattern into place.
  2. Start nailing through your pattern to create your design. I like to get the antlers out of the way first on this one, as it can get a little tight in there. Tear your pattern off once you’ve hit all the marks and remove any remaining paper.
  3. Tie onto your design (sealing your knot) and begin the outline. Refer to the pattern page to help you navigate the antlers; there are a few islands, or areas that won’t be filled with string. Be sure to outline these as well so they don’t get buried in string. This is a surprisingly big pattern, which is why I prefer to use a spool of crochet thread with this design. Zigzag your string until you are happy with the density. This pattern looks great with a double-wrapped border. Don’t forget to seal your ending knot.
  4. Attach your picture-hanging hardware and felt pads to the back side. Sign and date your work and think up a name for your new friend.
