Boho chic

These striking chevrons are worked to create a neat overlapping and layered effect, which plays on the contrast between the bright and bold colours. The chevrons are neatly attached to a shaped, button-up yoke making it an easy garment to slip on and wear.

FOR THE CHEVRON PATTERN

Foundation: Using yarn A and 4mm (US G/6) hook, make 226ch.

** Row 1 (RS): 1ch (does not count as st), dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 6 ch, *3dc in next ch, 1dc in each of next 8 ch, miss 2 ch, 1dc in each of next 8 ch; rep from * to last 9 ch, 3dc in next ch, 1dc in each of next 6 ch, dc2tog.

Row 2 (WS): 1ch, dc2tog, 1dc in each of next 6 sts, *3dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 8 sts, miss 2 sts, 1dc in each of next 8 sts; rep from * to last 9 sts, 3dc in next st, 1dc in each of next 6 sts, dc2tog.

Row 2 sets pattern.

Rows 3–8: Rep Row 2.

Row 9: Rep Row 2 but work through the front loop only (FLO) of each st.

Row 10: Rep Row 2 working through both loops again.

Fasten off.

With RS of chevrons facing but working in the unworked loop of sts in the previous stripe at back of work (see Tip, below), join yarn B and rep Rows 1–10.

Note: When repeating Row 1, you will be working into stitches rather than the chain, i.e. “1dc in each of next 6 sts”.

Tip

When joining in the new yarn for the next chevron in the colour sequence, keep the work with the right side facing you and fold the work over to expose the unworked back loops on Row 9 of the previous chevron strip.

With RS facing and using 4mm (US G/6) hook, re-join yarn D at the bottom of the chevron strip and work 1ch, 1dc in each st up the side to the top of the yoke. Fasten off.

Rep to add a dc border to the second side of the cloak and at the centre front point of the yoke, work 12ch and join with a sl st in first st to create buttonhole loop, then work 12dc into loop and fasten off.

MAKING UP AND FINISHING

Weave in all loose ends and block to measurements.

Position button to align with buttonhole loop on corresponding side of yoke and sew securely in place. Stitch on a second button on the opposite side of the yoke for a decorative finish.

Make it yours

The chevron section can be extended to make a longer cloak design; simply continue in the chevron pattern as set to the desired size and adjust the yarn quantities accordingly.
