SPECIAL STITCHES

Picot: Work 2ch and sl st in first ch.
FOR THE WRAP
Foundation: Using 5mm (US H/8) hook, make 75ch. 1tr in fourth ch from hook (missed 3ch count as first tr), 1tr in each ch to end, turn. (73 sts)
Row 1: 3ch (counts as 1tr throughout), 1tr in next st, *FPtr around next st, 1tr in each of next 2 sts; rep from * to last 2 sts, FPtr around next st, 1tr in last st, turn.
Row 2: 3ch, 1tr in next st, *FPtr around each of next 2 sts, 1tr in next st; rep from * to last 2 sts, 1tr in each of last 2 sts, turn.
Rows 1–2 set pattern.
Work rep of Rows 1–2 until piece measures 152.5cm (60in), ending after working Row 2. Do not fasten off.
FOR THE BORDER
Round 1: 1ch (does not count as st), 1dc in each st and row end around entire outer edge of shawl working 2dc in each corner, join with sl st in first st.
Make it yours
Add in a little contrast and work a few rows of plain treble stitches after each of the pattern repeats.
Tips
The texture of this stitch pattern is created by sometimes working around the front posts of stitches in the previous row, rather than working into the top of the stitch.
Y
For a really neat finish, be sure to weave in all the yarn ends on the wrong side of the stitch pattern so they are less visible on the finished wrap.
Round 2: 2ch, 1htr in each st around working 2htr in each corner, join with sl st in 2nd ch of 2ch.
Round 3: 1ch, *1dc, picot, 1dc in next st; rep from * to end, join with sl st in first st. Fasten off.
MAKING UP AND FINISHING
Weave in all loose ends and block to measurements, taking care to draw out the picots.
