The Beginning
In graphic novels or comic books, the splash page is often the first page.
Usually the splash page is one full page or sometimes even a double
page spread. Make your beginning grab the attention of your reader.
The central part of your story where the main conflict (problem) of your
characters is developed. This is the build-up of your story. This is where
the suspense, drama, or comedy (it can be all of them!) develop to
create your successful story.
The moment of highest tension when the conflict comes to a boiling
point. In the movie The Wizard of Oz, the climax occurs when we
discover the Wizard is a fraud. Think of graphic novels or books that you
have read or movies you’ve seen. Can you pick out the climax?
The part of the story when your main characters react to the climax. The
falling action happens quickly. Think of your favorite movies and note
when the climax occurs. Then notice how quickly the movie ends.
The point when the conflict is successfully wrapped up.
The End
The final part of the story in which everything is made clear. Not all
endings are happy. Some endings, especially in comic books, are
“To be continued ...”
